At just 16 years old, Luke Powell is already building a story far beyond his small-town beginnings.
Raised in Ferndale, California, on California’s rugged North Coast, Luke is a self-taught singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a powerful voice, natural storytelling instinct, and a sound well beyond his years. His musical journey started on a well-worn family piano and a vintage Martin guitar gifted by his aunt, eventually leading him to teach himself guitar and begin writing songs of his own.
Luke first built a following close to home, performing at events including the Humboldt County Fair, Fortuna Chili Cook-Off, and the California FFA State Leadership Conference at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center, where he performed in front of thousands of students from across the state.
Then Nashville started paying attention.
After a video of Luke warming up before a Humboldt County Fair performance reached Nashville producers, he was invited to Music City to record. During that trip, Luke performed at The Bluebird Cafe and Fox & Locke. After his Fox & Locke performance, he had an unexpected opportunity to play his original song “Out Here” for Shaboozey outside the venue—a surreal moment for a teenager who had only recently been playing primarily around his hometown.
That momentum has continued. Luke recently signed with Father Figures, a Nashville-based artist development and management firm, and is now actively writing, recording, and developing new music.
In July 2026, Luke opened for legendary country group Shenandoah at Country on the Coast during the Fortuna Rodeo. Later that night, he was invited back onstage to sing their iconic hit “Two Dozen Roses” alongside the band—another major milestone in what has quickly become a breakout year.
Despite the growing opportunities, Luke remains deeply connected to where he comes from. He’s an athlete, former high school rodeo competitor, FFA member, and the grandson of his music-loving grandfather Larry, who helped shape his appreciation for great songs and the people who sing them.
Those roots are becoming an important part of Luke’s identity as an artist—songs about growing up, small towns, family, leaving home, chasing something bigger, and figuring out who you are along the way.
From the Ferndale fairgrounds to Golden 1 Center, from The Bluebird Cafe to performing for Shaboozey, and from opening for Shenandoah to joining them onstage for “Two Dozen Roses,” Luke Powell’s world is getting bigger quickly.
But at the center of it all is still a 16-year-old kid from Ferndale, a guitar, and a growing collection of songs worth hearing.
